Alhambra at night

Night ticket: $14.20 (€12.73) Fri and Sat only until 31 March #1: Lolita's Tours night tour, 7.3

The Alhambra at night is not the day visit with the lights off. It's a separate ticket, a shorter route and a much smaller crowd.

The Alhambra's own trust, the Patronato, runs two night visits. One goes into the Nasrid Palaces, the part everyone comes for. The other goes into the Generalife gardens. They're sold separately, and the palaces night ticket doesn't include the gardens. Right now, in late October, the palaces open at night only on Friday and Saturday, at 8 p.m., and the gardens night visit has three weeks left before it stops for the winter.

The Nasrid night ticket costs $14.20 (€12.73). That's the number to keep in mind when you look at the two guided tours ranked below by our Night Score. Both use the same official night entry. What you pay extra for is the guide and someone else sorting out the tickets.

Both score a perfect 10 on our after-dark factor. Here, the night is the whole point.

The better of the two, and cheaper. Lolita's Tours guides you through the Nasrid Palaces at night, with the Puerta de la Justicia and the Palace of Charles V on the way, and the entry tickets and a radio-guide headset are included. 4.8 from 305 reviews. $60 (€54) for 90 minutes means you're paying about $46 (€41) on top of the official ticket for the guide. Fair, I think, for a place this dense with history. Bring the passport or ID used to book. Cancelling 24 hours ahead gets only a 60% refund. No strollers.

What it is: A Lolita's Tours guided night visit to the Nasrid Palaces, with the Puerta de la Justicia and the Palace of Charles V, entry tickets included.

Good to know: Entry tickets and a radio-guide system are included; bring the passport or ID used to book. Cancel up to 24 hours ahead for only a 60% refund. No strollers; the night visit does not include the Generalife.

After dark: The Nasrid Palaces at night are a separate ticket and a different visit: the courts and stucco are lit, and numbers are far lower than by day.

Same night entry, more money, lower rating. Granada Online meets by the map at the Alhambra ticket office and walks you through the Puerta de la Justicia, the Nasrid Palaces and the Palace of Charles V, ending on Calle Real de la Alhambra. 4.6 from 339 reviews. At $95 (€85) for two hours, you pay about $81 (€72) more than the ticket. The page also lists Generalife and Alcazaba access, which the official night ticket doesn't include. Trust the itinerary, not that list. Cancel 24 hours ahead for 50% back.

The official night visits: dates, times and prices

These are the Patronato's own figures from its opening hours and prices page.

Nasrid Palaces night visit, $14.20 (€12.73):

  • 15 October to 31 March: Friday and Saturday, 8 to 9:30 p.m. The ticket office is open 7 to 8:45 p.m.
  • 1 April to 14 October: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 11:30 p.m. Ticket office 9 to 10:45 p.m.

The route covers the Mexuar, the Comares Palace, the Palace of the Lions and Lindaraja. You go in only at the time printed on your ticket.

Gardens and Generalife night visit, $9.50 (€8.48):

  • 1 April to 31 May, and 1 September to 14 October: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 11:30 p.m.
  • 15 October to 14 November: Friday and Saturday, 8 to 9:30 p.m.

No gardens night visit is listed for June to August, or from 15 November to 31 March.

For comparison, the day general ticket is $25 (€22). The "Dobla de Oro at Night" combined ticket, $26 (€23), pairs the Nasrid night visit with the Andalusian monuments in the Albaicín.

The rules are strict. Under-12s go free but need their own ticket, bought with yours. You must show the original ID or passport used to book. Tickets that include the Nasrid Palaces have to be bought at least an hour before your entry time, and changes and refunds aren't accepted. Bags bigger than 40 by 40 cm aren't allowed in. The Alhambra is closed on 25 December and 1 January.

What you see at night that you don't by day

The stucco. By day, in a packed Hall of the Ambassadors, the carved walls are a backdrop to other people's phones. At night, with low lighting raking across them, the patterns come off the walls. The Court of the Lions, lit and half empty, is the image that sells these tours, and it's real.

You also get the sound. Water in the channels and fountains is something you hear at night.

What you lose: the Generalife and the Alcazaba, unless you buy the separate gardens night ticket in the months it runs. And the views out over Granada are mostly darkness, with the Albaicín's lights across the valley. The best view of the Alhambra at night is from the other side, from the Albaicín itself, looking back.

Guided tour or the official ticket?

If you can get an official night ticket for the evening you want, buy it. $14.20 (€12.73) is a bargain for what you see, and the night route is short enough that you won't get lost.

A guide earns its money in two cases. One, you want to understand what you're looking at: the Nasrid dynasty, the inscriptions, why the Palace of Charles V is sitting in the middle of it all. Two, you couldn't get the official ticket. The online shop limits buyers to 10 tickets per person per month, and tickets are named, so a tour that includes the tickets saves you that hunt.

Between the two, Lolita's Tours is cheaper and better rated. I'd book that one.

This winter: weekends only, and early

From now until 31 March 2027, the Nasrid night visit runs only on Friday and Saturday, starting at 8 p.m. If your trip to Granada is Sunday to Thursday, there's no night visit at all. Plan your days around that before you book the hotel.

The gardens night visit stops after 14 November 2026. It returns on 1 April, Tuesday to Saturday at 10 p.m.

Two caveats. The Patronato's night-visit pages are old, and the hours page we read doesn't list any 2026 or 2027 exceptions. It also flags special access conditions on 18 April and 16 November without saying what they are. Check the official ticket site for your date before you build an evening around it.

Gaps, and what to skip

Skip the resold "Alhambra Night Visit Entry Ticket" on GetYourGuide. It rated 3.6 from 620 reviews when our researcher checked, and the official ticket costs $14.20 (€12.73). Several Viator night tours rated 3.5 to 4.4, or had only a handful of reviews.

A sunset legends walk around the Alhambra rated 4.9, but from 41 reviews, and it's a walk outside the walls rather than palace entry. Good idea, too new to rank.

There's also no ranked tour of the Generalife at night. If you want the gardens after dark, buy the Patronato's own gardens night ticket, and do it before 14 November or after 1 April.

For other sights that open after dark, see the Colosseum night tour and Eiffel Tower at night pages, or our Barcelona night tours if Granada is part of a bigger Spain trip.

Frequently asked questions

Can you visit the Alhambra at night?

Yes. The Nasrid Palaces open for night visits all year: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. from 15 October to 31 March, and Tuesday to Saturday at 10 p.m. from 1 April to 14 October. The ticket costs $14.20 (€12.73).

Does the Alhambra night ticket include the Generalife?

No. The gardens and Generalife have their own night ticket, $9.50 (€8.48), and it only runs in spring, early autumn and until 14 November. There's no gardens night visit in summer or in winter.

Is the Alhambra night visit worth it?

Yes. It's cheaper than the day ticket, the crowds are smaller and the lit palaces look different. You miss the gardens and the Alcazaba, so do the day visit too if you can.

How long is the Alhambra night visit?

The official window is 90 minutes, 8 to 9:30 p.m. in winter and 10 to 11:30 p.m. in summer. The two guided tours we rank last 1.5 and 2 hours.

Do children need a ticket for the Alhambra at night?

Under-12s go free, but they need a ticket, bought at the same time as the adults'. You also need the ID used to book.
