Eiffel Tower at night

Sparkles 5 minutes each hour Summit by lift: $41 (€37) Last ascents 10:45 p.m.

You don't need a tour to see the Eiffel Tower at night. You need a watch.

Every evening, as soon as it gets dark, the golden lighting comes on by itself. Then, at the start of each hour, 20,000 bulbs flash across the whole structure for five minutes. That's the sparkle, and the tower's operator says it runs every night after dusk. You can watch it free from the Trocadéro, the Champ de Mars or a bridge.

You can also go up. The tower is open until 11 p.m. this week, with last ascents at 10:45, and the lift to the summit costs $41 (€37) for an adult. None of the five tours on this page includes that ticket. They're two dinner cruises and three rides on wheels that stop at the tower, ranked by our Night Score. No Viator summit tour our researcher found listed an evening slot.

So the useful question isn't which tour. It's what you want the tower for: a view from it, a view of it, or dinner under it.

5.3/10Night Score
  • From $74 (€66)

  • Starts: Evening
  • Small group, 12+
  • 4.9 (102 reviews)

It starts and ends at the tower, on Avenue de la Bourdonnais, and loops Pont Alexandre III, the Grand Palais, Concorde and the Louvre in between. That's why it comes first: you see the tower lit at both ends of a 90-minute ride, plus half of Paris. 4.9 from 102 reviews. $74 (€66) is steep, about $50 (€44) an hour, and admissions aren't included, so you won't go up. Capped at 15, no children 11 or under. If you time it to finish on the hour, you get the sparkle.

Bateaux Mouches Dinner Cruise on the Seine River in Paris

4.9/10Night Score
  • From $141 (€126)
  • 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Starts: 8:30 p.m.
  • Shared boat
  • 4.4 (5,268 reviews)

The most dependable way to see the tower lit from the river. It sails at 8:30 p.m. from Port de la Conférence by Pont de l'Alma and gets back by 10:45, so in most months you pass the tower in full dark, very likely on a sparkle. That's the highest after-dark score on the page. 4.4 from 5,268 reviews is what holds it second. $141 (€126) for dinner and live music. Wine depends on the menu tier. The page says to be at the pier by 7:30, so plan on an early arrival.

What it is: A Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches dinner cruise with a 3- or 4-course meal and live music.

Good to know: Back by 10:45 p.m. Wine depends on the menu tier (one glass up to half a bottle); kids' meals ages 4 to 12 cost extra. The page also says to be at the pier by 7:30, so arrive early.

After dark: The 8:30 p.m. departure means the whole cruise past the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and the Louvre is after dark and illuminated.

Bateaux Parisiens Seine River Gourmet Dinner & Sightseeing Cruise

4.8/10Night Score
  • From $143 (€127)
  • 2 hours
  • Starts: Evening
  • Shared boat
  • 4.4 (7,513 reviews)

The only tour that leaves from the tower itself: Port de la Bourdonnais is at its foot. 7,513 reviews, the most of any Paris product we track, and the same 4.4 rating as Bateaux Mouches. It ranks a step lower on price, $143 (€127) for two hours. The return leg passes the monuments lit. Boarding times only appear when you book, and the page doesn't promise the sparkle, so pick a sailing that ends on or after the hour in full darkness. Smart casual. Extra drinks cost extra.

What it is: A Bateaux Parisiens dinner cruise on the Seine with a 3- or 4-course menu, wine and a live singer.

Good to know: Smart casual dress; extra drinks cost more. The page does not promise the hourly Eiffel Tower sparkle, though reviewers often see it.

After dark: It leaves from the foot of the Eiffel Tower and the return leg passes the monuments lit up after dark.

A private cart that drives the Champs-Élysées and Trocadéro to the tower, and reviewers often say it ends with the sparkle. The operator doesn't promise it, so book a slot that's after dark, which in June means a late one. 5.0 from 64 reviews, the best rating here and the thinnest record, which with the steep solo price is why it sits fourth rather than leading. $172 (€153) is the price for one; for two it's $86 (€77) each. Free pickup in the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th arrondissements, or meet at Place Vauban.

Paris Vintage Tour by Night on a Sidecar with Champagne

Night bus tours · Paris

4.1/10Night Score
  • From $205 (€183)
  • 2 hours
  • Starts: Early evening

A vintage sidecar with a driver, a glass of Champagne and a stop at the tower as the lights come on, after Montmartre and the Arc de Triomphe. It's 4.9 from 52 reviews and genuinely different. It's also $205 (€183) per person for two hours, the worst value on this page, with two guests sharing each sidecar. Tower entry isn't included. It runs in the early evening, so in summer you'll see the tower in daylight. Save it for winter, or for a celebration.

The official after-dark access: hours and prices

The tower's posted hours for this week, 26 to 31 October 2026, are 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last ascents at 10:45 p.m. The operator's FAQ puts the last lift to the top earlier, at 10:30 p.m. Its night-visit article asks you to leave the top 45 minutes before closing and the second floor 30 minutes before. In other words, if you want the summit after dark, aim to be on the esplanade by about 9:30.

Prices this season, adults (25 and over):

  • Lift to the summit: $41 (€37). Ages 12 to 24 pay $21 (€18.40), ages 4 to 11 $10.30 (€9.20).
  • Lift to the second floor: $26 (€24).
  • Stairs to the second floor: $16.60 (€14.80).
  • Stairs, then lift to the summit: $31 (€28).

New 2027 fares apply from 11 January 2027. Since 29 September 2026 stairs tickets have to be booked ahead too. Summit lift tickets go on sale up to 90 days ahead. Allow 10 to 20 minutes for security.

Two warnings from the operator. The summit isn't open to people with reduced mobility. And access to the top may be restricted in severe weather or at peak times, which can mean a second-floor-only night.

When the tower sparkles

The rule is simple. The golden lighting comes on within 10 minutes of dark, switched by twilight sensors. The sparkle comes on at the start of the next hour, for five minutes, and repeats every hour. The operator's own example: if night falls at 7:40 p.m., the first sparkle is at 8.

Apply that to Paris's darkness times. In mid-December it's dark by 5:31 p.m., so the first sparkle is at 6. In mid-June it's dark around 10:37 p.m., so you're waiting until 11. The full month-by-month table is below.

When does it stop? The lighting page says the lights and the beacon are on from dusk until midnight. The night-visit article says that in summer they stay on until 1 a.m. with a final special display, and that the tower closes at 12:45 a.m. from late June to early September. The two pages don't fully agree, so plan around midnight and treat a 1 a.m. sparkle as a summer bonus.

What you see at night that you don't by day

From the top, 276 metres up, you get the city as a map of lights: the boulevards in lines, the Seine dark between them. By day it's a beige sprawl. At night it makes sense.

You do miss one thing from up there. You can't see the sparkle properly when you're standing on it. The operator recommends the second floor at the top of the hour if you want to be on the tower for it, and it suggests 9 or 10 p.m. in summer, earlier in winter. Honestly, I'd watch it from the ground.

The crowds also thin. The operator says there are fewer visitors from 8 p.m. onward, with the last hour quieter still. Allow at least 90 minutes for a summit visit, and bring a windproof layer: it says the upper floors run 1 to 3 degrees Celsius colder than the ground. The summit Champagne bar is open until 10:30 p.m. in low season and until midnight in July and August.

How the tours compare with just buying the ticket

None of them takes you up. That's the main thing. Every tour ranked here treats the tower as the backdrop, and the best of them do that well.

If you want the view from the tower, buy the official ticket on the tower's site and pick an evening slot. Book early; the operator says lift tickets sell up to 90 days ahead. Beware of resellers that charge a premium for the same timed entry.

If you want the view of the tower, the free version is hard to beat. Stand on the Trocadéro terrace a few minutes before the hour. Then walk down over Pont d'Iéna to the foot of it.

If you want dinner with it, Bateaux Mouches is the dependable choice because of its 8:30 p.m. sailing. Bateaux Parisiens has the better pier. Both cost about $141 (€126) a head or more.

Gaps, and what to skip

The gap is a guided summit visit after dark. Epic Tours, City Wonders and Uncle Sam all sell well-reviewed climbs and elevator tours, and their reviews mention 7 p.m. and sunset visits, but their pages show no evening times. We don't rank a tour as a night tour on reviewers' say-so. If you book one, ask for the last slot.

Skip plain Seine sightseeing cruises in the evening. The ones our researcher checked rated 3.8 to 4.2. And skip any tour that sells "the sparkle" as an extra. It's every hour, it's free, and nobody can switch it on for you.

For the rest of the city after dark, see our Paris night tours page.

Can you go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night?

Yes. This week the tower is open until 11 p.m. with last ascents at 10:45 p.m., and its FAQ gives 10:30 p.m. as the last lift to the top. The summit lift ticket is $41 (€37) for adults. The top can close in bad weather or at peak times.
