Florence is small. That's the whole story of its night tours. You can walk from the Duomo to the Ponte Vecchio in less time than it takes a group to gather, so a guided sightseeing walk after dark adds less here than in Rome.
What a tour can add is dinner. Four of the five tours below are built around food, and three of them end up in the Oltrarno, around Piazza Santo Spirito, which is where Florence goes out at night. The fifth is a ghost and crime walk that runs on tips and ties for first place.
Only five tours cleared our bar, which is thin for a city this visited. Several Florence night products had too few reviews to rank: an e-bike night ride with 36, a night walk with aperitivo with 19. No ghost walk with a fixed price, pub crawl or river cruise made it. The list is ordered by our Night Score.

The 5 best night tours in Florence, ranked
Every tour we scored in Florence that cleared our bar (rated 4.4 or more from 50+ reviews), in Night Score order. Night Score = 30% rating, 10% review count, 20% price per hour, 40% how much the night is the point. How we score
The most proven night tour in Florence by far, 4.9 from 6,273 reviews, and that's what puts it first. It's expensive: $125 (€111) for 3.5 hours, around $36 (€32) an hour, which drags its value score down. For that you get 9 to 10 Tuscan tastings, 4 wines, a Prosecco toast, a Negroni-making lesson and gelato. It starts and ends at Piazza Santo Spirito at aperitivo hour, as the square fills. Groups cap at 13, minimum 2. Under-4s go free if they don't eat. Hotel transfers and extra drinks aren't included.

What it is: An Eating Europe walk in the Oltrarno with 9 to 10 Tuscan tastings, 4 wines, a Prosecco toast, a Negroni-making lesson and gelato.
Good to know: Capped at 13, minimum 2; under-4s go free without food. Hotel transfers and extra drinks are not included. Ends back at Piazza Santo Spirito.
After dark: It runs through the Oltrarno at aperitivo hour and into the evening, when Santo Spirito fills up.

Ties for first, for very different reasons. It's tip-based: the $3.43 (€3.10) on the card is only a booking fee, and the page says people tip 10 to 50 euros, so budget $11.20 (€10) to $56 (€50). Ghosts, murders and the Monster of Florence, told on a walk from Piazza della Santissima Annunziata past the Duomo and the Bargello to the Ponte Vecchio. 4.9 from 3,591 reviews. The catch is size: up to 25 people. It's not recommended for under-18s, and the page gives no clock time, though reviews describe it as after dark.

What it is: A Florence Tour-Tale storytelling walk on ghosts and crimes from Santissima Annunziata past the Duomo and Bargello to the Ponte Vecchio.
Good to know: Up to 25 people and not recommended for under-18s. The $3.43 is only a booking fee: the guide expects a tip, and the page says people give 10 to 50 euros.
After dark: The ghosts, murders and Monster of Florence stories are told in the old centre after dark, ending on the Ponte Vecchio.

The value pick. $65 (€58) for 3.5 hours, about $18.60 (€16.60) an hour, with 14 tastings across 4 stops, 4 glasses of wine and a Florentine steak dinner. It also stops at one of the city's old wine windows, the little hatches in palace walls. The rating, 4.8 from 822, is what keeps it third. It starts on Via delle Farine by Piazza della Signoria and ends in Santo Spirito. Capped at 12. Not wheelchair or stroller friendly, and under-6s who won't eat come free.

A perfect 5.0, but on 352 reviews, and at $148 (€132) it's the priciest tour here at $37 (€33) an hour. Those two things put it fourth. It's the biggest meal of the lot: the equivalent of a 4-course dinner with truffle pasta and steak, free-flowing wine and gelato to finish. Reviewers say skip lunch, and I'd believe them. Over-18s only, capped at 15. It starts on Via dei Ramaglianti in the Oltrarno and ends at a gelateria near the Duomo. No clock time on the page.

4.4 (59 reviews)
Only just clears the bar, and its score of 4.4 says so. A 4.4 rating on 59 reviews is the weakest record of any tour on this page. The route is the classic one: from the Medici palace past San Lorenzo and the Duomo, through Piazza della Signoria to the Ponte Vecchio, ending at Palazzo Pitti. No entries are included. $51 (€46) for 1 hour 40 minutes is $31 (€28) an hour, for a walk you could do alone. Reviewers report 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. starts, so in summer it's in daylight.

What Florence is like after dark
The museums close early. The Uffizi runs Tuesday to Sunday from 8:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the ticket office shuts at 5:30, and it's closed on Mondays. So in winter, when it's dark by 5:11 p.m. in December, a late Uffizi visit ends in the dark anyway. That's the closest thing to a night opening the Uffizi lists right now.
The squares are a different story. Piazza della Signoria stays open, and the statues under the Loggia dei Lanzi are there all night, lit, with nobody charging anything. The Ponte Vecchio's jewellers close up their wooden shutters in the evening, and the bridge looks like a row of locked cupboards. Odd. Worth seeing.
People eat and drink south of the river. Santo Spirito is the square to aim for. On the north side, the streets around the Duomo empty out faster than you'd expect once the day-trippers leave.
Ghost walk or food tour
It comes down to whether you want stories or dinner. Florence doesn't really do both in one tour.
For stories, the Dark Side of Florence is the only ghost walk that ranked, and it's good. Tip-based tours work on trust, so tip properly. A large group of 25 is the price of a low entry fee.
For dinner, pick by budget. The Tour Guy's steak walk at $65 (€58) is the honest middle. Eating Europe's sunset tour at $125 (€111) is the one with the record. The Cooking Italy truffle dinner is for people who want to eat a lot and are fine paying for it.
A paid sightseeing walk at night? I wouldn't, here. The night food tours page compares food walks across our cities if you want a sense of what $65 (€58) buys elsewhere.
The free version: Duomo to Piazzale Michelangelo
This is the walk the highlights tour sells, plus the view it leaves out. Start at the Duomo, lit and quiet after dinner. Walk down Via dei Calzaiuoli to Piazza della Signoria and look at the Loggia dei Lanzi. Go through the Uffizi courtyard to the river. Cross the Ponte Vecchio.
Then keep going. On the far side, head east along the river and climb up to Piazzale Michelangelo, where the whole city sits below you with the dome in the middle. It's a public square, open at night, and you'll share it with couples and people with wine in paper cups. Walk back down through San Niccolò, which has a few late bars.
If you want a story to go with it, read up on the wine windows before you go and count them on the way.
Getting back late
You'll walk. Florence has no metro, and almost everything on this page starts and ends inside the old centre or just across the river. The tours finish at Santo Spirito, the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti or near the Duomo, all within walking distance of most central hotels.
If you're staying further out, book a taxi rather than trying to flag one. The city's tourism office lists the taxi companies, including CO.TA.FI on 055 4390 and SOCOTA on 055 4242. The T2 tram runs out to the airport, handy if you're staying near the line.
Cobbles and narrow pavements are the main hazard at night. Wear real shoes. Our what to bring guide has the rest.
When to go: darkness and cold
In December it's dark by 5:11 p.m.; in June not until 9:34. That's a big swing. A food tour that starts at sunset in summer won't see real darkness until it's nearly over, while in winter the same tour is at night from the first glass.
Florence is colder at night than Rome. January nights in our weather data drop to about 36°F (2.3°C), against 39°F in Rome. In July and August nights sit around 66°F (19°C), and the days are hot, around 90°F, so summer evenings are when walking is most pleasant. May is the wettest month, with roughly 14 rain days.
For every month's sunset and dusk times, see the table on this page or our when it gets dark guide.
What's missing, and what to skip
Florence has no ranked river cruise and no pub crawl. None qualified. A private Legends of Florence ghost tour had 30 reviews, too few to rank.
Skip a sightseeing walk that only shows you the outside of the Duomo and the Signoria. It's the lowest-scoring tour on this page for a reason. Spend the money on dinner in the Oltrarno instead, with or without a guide. If Florence is one stop of several, Rome has the deeper bench of night tours: see night tours in Rome.

Where Florence ranks
The best place a Florence tour reaches on each of our other pages.
One cleared our bar: The Dark Side of Florence, a tip-based walk about ghosts, murders and the Monster of Florence that ends on the Ponte Vecchio. It's for adults, and groups go up to 25.
Is Florence worth seeing at night?
Yes, and mostly for free. The Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio are lit, and Piazzale Michelangelo gives you the whole city from above. Pay for a tour if you want dinner or stories.
Is the Uffizi open in the evening?
Not late. It's open Tuesday to Sunday until 6:30 p.m., with the ticket office closing at 5:30, and closed on Mondays. No evening openings were listed on its site when we checked.
How much should you tip on the Dark Side of Florence tour?
The tour page says people tip 10 to 50 euros, which is $11.20 (€10) to $56 (€50), on top of a $3.43 (€3.10) booking fee. Tip for what you thought it was worth.
Is Florence safe to walk at night?
The centre is small and busy into the evening, and generally fine on foot. Use the main streets late at night and book taxis by phone. Our safety guide covers the basics.
