This is the top of everything we score: 335 night tours across our 32 cities plus a handful of dark-sky and glowing-water spots outside them, each read on its own GetYourGuide or Viator page on October 26, 2026. The order comes straight out of the formula. Nobody on the team nudged a favourite up.
Look down the list and you can see what the Night Score rewards. Tours where darkness is the product do very well: telescopes on Teide, tree frogs on a trail outside La Fortuna, a swim in a bay that glows when you kick. So do cheap evenings that cram a lot into four hours, like the Bangkok tuk-tuk at number one. A walk that would be just as good at lunchtime sinks, no matter how many people loved it. Of the 335, 51 score a full 10 on our after-dark scale, and nine of them made this page.
If you only read one thing: book the stargazing and the bio bays around the moon, not around your hotel.

Top of the world, and value is why. Four hours for $38 (€34) comes to about $9.50 (€8.50) an hour, a perfect 10 on price, backed by 4,182 reviews at 4.9. Expique starts at Krung Thonburi BTS exit 1, works through Thonburi's food streets and the Pak Khlong Talat flower market, which is busiest after dark, then rolls past the floodlit old city to Chinatown, finishing around 11 p.m. Two people share each tuk-tuk. The catch: it's alcohol-free, and the small-group option takes nobody under 10.

Two light shows and a bumboat ride for $32 (€29). CYT meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Starbucks at One Fullerton, takes a 30-minute cruise past Clarke Quay, then lines you up for Garden Rhapsody at the Supertrees and Spectra at Marina Bay. Here's the honest bit: both shows are free, so you could see them alone. What you pay for is the boat, the guide and the coach between them, which is why the score holds. Groups run to 35. Dinner isn't included, whatever one line on the page claims.

The lowest rating in our top five, 4.7, and it still comes third. A 10 on after dark, a sale price of $39 (€35) (it was $45 (€40)) and 3,757 reviews do the lifting. DAS Experience watches sunset from a Teide viewpoint at about 1,400 m, then sets up a 12-inch Dobsonian. A glass of cava and an astrophoto come with it. There are no toilets at the sites. If wind or cloud moves in, the group stays at the lower viewpoint, which is the gamble with any mountain sky.

What it is: A DAS Experience sunset at a Teide viewpoint at about 1,400 m, then a guided stargazing session with a 12-inch Dobsonian telescope.
Good to know: Sale price of $39 (was $45). Includes a glass of cava and a free astrophoto; warm jackets only on the VIP pickup option. No toilets at the sites, and in wind or cloud the group stays at the lower viewpoint.
After dark: Teide is a Starlight Reserve above the clouds, and the telescope session is only possible after dark.

Same mountain, different idea. Astroguide Tenerife skips sunset and starts 40 minutes after it, by the Ermita de las Nieves inside the national park, so the sky is properly dark from the first minute. It rates higher than DAS (4.9 against 4.7) but on 541 reviews, and two hours for $39 (€35) is less time for the money. Plan a car. There's no pickup and the meeting point is in the park. Photos are free; sessions run in English and Spanish.

What it is: Astroguide Tenerife's 2-hour telescope and laser-pointer session in Teide National Park, meeting by the Ermita de las Nieves.
Good to know: You get yourself to the meeting point (it is in the national park, so plan a car). Free photos included; English and Spanish. Not for babies under 1.

Roughly double the price of number one, $77 (€68), and that's most of the four-place gap. Bangkok Food Tours meets at Samyan MRT exit 2 at 7 p.m., caps the group at 10 and heads for Chinatown, the stalls on Banthat Thong Road and the flower market before a drink at Secrets Bar. The tastings add up to dinner and one Thai beer is included. Don't expect a pickup: the inclusions list says one, the description says drop-off only, to selected hotels.

The highest-scoring city walk in our whole data set is a Ripper tour, and the reason is money. Meet the Street's two-hour walk from Aldgate Underground station costs $20 (€17.90) today, struck through from $27 (€24), which is a 10 on value, and 1,544 reviews average 4.9. Whitechapel and Spitalfields under streetlight do the rest. Tips are included. That sale price won't last forever, so check it before you build an evening around it.

How this list is made
Every tour gets a Night Score out of 10: 30% traveler rating (pulled toward 4.5 until it has enough reviews to earn its number), 10% review count, 20% price per hour and 40% our after-dark score, which asks how much the night is the point. We take the 20 highest, with no more than two from any one city or place. The full method, with the formulas, is on how we score night tours.
Why stargazing and rainforest walks crowd the top
Forty per cent of the score is the after-dark factor. A telescope session or a frog walk can't happen at noon, so it gets a 10. A ghost walk usually gets a 6 or 7, because the stories would still be stories in daylight, just less fun.
That weighting is a choice, and I think it's the right one for a site about the night. It's also why the Mauna Kea trip survives a 2.5 on price. And it explains the odd pairings: a Ripper walk at $20 (€17.90) sits right next to a rainforest walk at $52 (€46), one winning on price, the other on darkness.
Ratings still matter. Plenty of tours score 10 on after dark and miss the list because they're rated 4.5 or have a few dozen reviews. Our bar for any tour to be ranked at all is 4.4 stars, and the rating factor gives nothing until a tour's adjusted score passes 4.4.
The runners-up the city cap cut
Two tours would have made the top 20 without the two-per-place rule. Astrophototour's Teide session scores 8.2, with a 32-inch Dobsonian and hotel pickup for $73 (€65), but Tenerife already has two spots. The Bamboo Bicycle firefly ride in Bangkok scores 8.1 and lost out to the two Bangkok tuk-tuks.
Why cap at all? Without it, Tenerife and Bangkok would take a quarter of the page. You'd learn less.
The Mirador El Silencio night walk near Arenal also scores 7.8, but it would be a third La Fortuna tour, and Meet the Street's Ghastly Ghosts walk (7.7) would be a third for London. The first tours genuinely below the line are SANDEMANs' Darkside walk in Edinburgh and the Budapest ruin-bar crawl, both on 7.7. All of them rank on their own city pages.
What's missing, and why
Paris. Its best tour in our data, a Segway ride from the Champ de Mars, scores 5.3. The night sightseeing cruises on the Seine that we found all rate 4.2 or lower, so none clear our bar. See our Paris page for what to do instead.
Rome's big sights after hours. The Vatican Museums list no evening openings for 2026/27, and the Colosseum's official Una Notte al Colosseo series ended on October 22, 2026. No reseller's evening Colosseum tour cleared the bar on a page we could read.
Singapore's Night Safari. The only reseller product that passed scores 7.0, and the plain ticket from Mandai, $45 (€41; S$58) for a visiting adult with the tram included, is cheaper anyway. Details on the Night Safari page.
European bioluminescence. Nothing in Europe cleared our bar on either platform. The famous Irish and Portuguese spots are sold direct or barely reviewed.
The Alhambra night tour (7.3) and the Laguna Grande kayak in Fajardo (7.4) were close. Not close enough.
Booking the top of the list without regret
The star and glow tours fail in predictable ways. Clouds on Teide push the DAS group down the mountain. A full moon dims a bio bay, and most operators don't refund for weak glow, only for unsafe weather. Rainforest walks run in the rain and stop only for lightning. None of that is a reason to skip them. It's a reason to book early in your trip, so you have a spare night.
Check the age rules before you get attached. Mauna Kea is 13 and up, City of the Dead 12, Cloak and Dagger rules out 12 and under, Amsterdam's walk 14, New Orleans 17. If kids are coming, the family list filters them for you.

Spain, if you count the Canary Islands: Tenerife and Gran Canaria take three of the top six with stargazing tours. Thailand has two in the top five and Costa Rica places three rainforest walks. The US has four (one each in Hawaii, Florida, DC and New Orleans), plus a Puerto Rico bio bay, and the UK has three.
Is stargazing on Teide worth it?
Yes, if the sky cooperates. The two Teide tours here score 8.5 and both cost about $39 (€35). Pick DAS Experience if you want sunset and a pickup option; pick Astroguide if you can drive and want to start in full dark, 40 minutes after sunset.
How much does a good night tour cost?
On this list the range runs from $20 (€17.90) for the London Ripper walk to $330 (€295) for Mauna Kea. Most of the 20 fall between $25 (€22) and $65 (€58). Our cheap list caps the price at $35 (€31) a head.
Do night tours run in bad weather?
Most walks do. The Costa Rica night walks go out in rain, the New Orleans walk is rescheduled for bad weather, and the DC van tour runs rain or shine. Stargazing and bio-bay trips are the ones that change plans or cancel, so read the refund terms on those.
